Adam hugged his brother Jay tightly before they were forced in to thone room. He didn't even know why their small village had been attacked. They had done nothing wrong as far as he knew. Adam carefully pushed Jay behind him as they stopped in front of the throne.

Emperor Harris Lacroix was not a kind man. For years he had ruled Rome with an iron fist, knowing no mercy when it came to his prisoners. Like the two men who stood before him now in chains. Their village chieftan had tried to invade his palace and that was just not going to happen. So Harris had sent his forces to dispatch of the threat, buring the village to the ground. He sat cross legged in his chair, smirking at the young men.

"Well? Are you to show no honor for your emperor?" he sneered.

Adam and Jay were both forced down to their knees. Adam looked up at the Emperor. "Why was our villaged burned, the people have been nothing but loyal. We pay the taxes and honor every year." He questioned in a quiet voice.

Harris sneered, "Your village leader...whatever his name was...was not loyal to me. He talked of wanting to get my spot of emperor. For his disobediance, all of the village had to suffer. Now, tell me slaves, what are your names?"

Adam gritted his teeth at being called slave but answered. "Adam." "J-Jayson." Jay answered softly.

Harris smiled, "Adam and Jay? Good names. You two will become gladiators. Both strong men I can tell."

Jay swallowed and looked at Adam. Adam carefully school his emotions.

Adam looked at Harris, "There is a difference from being scared and being a coward...."

"It means yes one may be afraid but can still face their fears inlike a coward." Adam said.

"It is just an old folk saying...." Adam said, he could tell Jay was really scared.

"It is my nature.... it helped me and my brother for years." Adam replied calmly. Jay looked nervously around the room.

Adam turned to Jay, saying softly. "Jay-Jay it will be ok i promise." Jay nodded slowly.

Harris sat back, "Tell him I mean him no harm. He is just a captive."

Adam repeted the words to Jay, calming his brother the way that only he could.

Lucas Turner, the most hated of all the palace guards, entered the room with a smirk on his face. "Ah my king, I assume you have found the prisoners to be in order?"

Harris nodded "Thank you Lucas."

Adam studied the man carefully while continuing to keep Jay calm. Jay didn't like the way the man looked at him and his brother.
