Alex relaxed against his longtime friend.

"He was more interested in talking to the vampire." Artemis sighed.
"I'm sorry we couldn't get you sooner." Jasper said quietly.

"I think he likes him..." Dante said softly.
Alex shifted back, "Not your fault Jasper."

"How isn't it? I could have stopped them taking you; if I wasn't a useless vampire..." Jasper muttered.

"How aren't I? I can't even help withcooking, or with getting supplies; unless it's night..."

Dante looked a little confused at his frowned.
"You've taken care of me for years Jasper..." Alex said softly.

"I'm just used to having only my brother around I guess," Artemis sighed after seeing the confused look. "We didn't really talk to many of the others...up where we come from."
Jasper shrugged his shoulders. "And this also isn't the first time you've been taken."

Dante nodded slowly, "What about Alex?" He asked softly.
"You rescued me the first time...."

"Right..." Artemis said slowly, looking confused himself now.
"Your...family?" Jasper repeated as if he'd never been told it before. Having almost slipped into his 'dark place' again when Alex had been taken he didn't really believe it. "But I'm a vampire."

"Your my family Jasper." Alex repeated.

Jasper stood watching him for a moment before giving in and finally accepting it; smiling and nodding.

"I'm not sure if my brother and I will have to go back after..." Artemis told him quietly.
Jasper relaxed at the hug, holding him close. Despite his stubbornness, Jasper had thought of him as a brother for a long time.
