PostSubject: Never quite the same...   Wed Sep 21, 2011 4:55 pm

Justin sighed as he stared out the window he was sitting by in the lounge room of Barrett manor. He wasn't looking forward to Wade getting up, as his boss had been depressed since his lover Stephen Farrelly had left.

Stephen and Wade, who was known as Stu back then, had secretly been lovers for years before Wade's father caught them. He killed Farrelly's father in response, along with cutting all family ties between the Barretts and the Farrellys.
Stephen had lashed out at Wade, unable to get to his father at the time and left, a look of hatred in his eyes and hadn't been heard from since.

Once Stephen was gone, Mr Barrett had sent his son away to Manchester, where he was sent to learn how to run the family business. Stu had come back years later, his name now changed to Wade and hadn't been the same since. He'd hired Justin and Heath, both his childhood friends, to work for him after killing his own father for sending Stephen away.

Justin stared down at the drawing pad he had in front of him, frowning when he realised his usually over-active mind had left him with a still mostly blank page besides a few sentences. He put down his pencil, seeing as he wasn't using it anyway and ran a hand through his dark, spiked hair, looking up when he heard someone coming.

Since he had lost the man he had loved, Stephen Farrelly, the man now named Wade Barrett had wondered what it was like to die with a broken heart. He had been sent to Manchester, England which was home to a private boarding school that his own father had hoped would teach him how to be cut off from everyone. It was also closer to the action of the Barrett family, something that would work for his advantage. There had been things that had happened to him there that he would never tell a soul, things that had changed who he was as a human being and not for the better.

Walking into the lounge room after grabbing a cup of coffee, Wade saw his young friend Justin Gabriel. They had once been close, best friends who would tell each other everything, along with Heath Slater and Stephen Farrelly. But Wade had grown cold, distant. He had learned not to let anyone get to close to him for fear that they would hurt him like he had been hurt so many other times. Sitting down on his black leather reclining chair, Wade picked up the newspaper and began to read.

Watching Wade cautiously as he walked into the room Justin sat there wondering, for what was already probably the millionth time, what exactly had happened to change Wade so much. He wasn't going to say anything, but kept watching until the Englishman sat down and began reading his newspaper before slowly looking back down at his drawing pad.
Justin slowly picked up his pencil again, drawing absent-mindely as he thought about Heath, who was currently back in America.

For years now he and Heath had been lovers, though not even Wade was aware of it. After seeing how Wade's father had reacted to his own son having another male as a lover, Heath & Justin had decided to keep their relationship secret. By the time Wade had returned from Manchester and killed his father, they were so used to keeping it a secret that they didn't bother telling him.

Justin felt weird being left alone with only Wade, so used to having Heath around and once also Stephen around. He felt almost uncomfortable being around this new, colder Wade without Heath beside him and was tempted to leave the room, though he knew if he did that he'd just get called back to explain.
He continued staring out the window as he drew, not even aware he was doing so.

Wade felt the strange awkwardness in the room but didn't know how to respond. He had once been best friends with them. There would be laughing, merriment and probably a drinking game. However, since Stephen had been sent away and Wade had been sent to the hell hole he called Manchester, there was something silent and cold about him. He held no joy in his heart. All the joy had been sucked away while in school.

Looking up from his paper, he looked over at Justin. He wanted to say something, to break the awkwardness. Sighing, he ran a hand through his hair. "How are you?"

Jumping slightly as he realised he was being spoken to, Justin dropped his pencil, slowly turning to look at Wade.
"I...I'm good." Justin said nervously. "Um...How..how are you?" He asked back, looking as if he was expecting Wade to suddenly start yelling or something.
He nervously played with one of his earrings as he watched Wade, looking more at the paper the man was holding, than directly at Wade.

Wade nodded and looked at the paper once again as he spoke, "I'm doing well. I haven't talked to you in...in a while." the truth of the matter was he couldn't remember the last time he had actually sat down and spoke to anyone about anything. He kept everything bottled up inside until he couldn't handle it himself. He could tell his friend was nervous and took a deep breath. "How...how is work going?" he asked softly.

"No...you haven't." Justin said, frowning. He'd gotten lonely with Wade rarely speaking to him, though he'd speak to Heath over the phone at least once a week, it wasn't the same as having someone beside him to talk to. He looked up at Wade's face and decided to be honest, aware that Wade might get angry. He took a deep breath before speaking again.
"Well...to be honest, work kind of sucks. Have you ever been in a situation where your best friend's over seas and your boss, who's supposed to be your friend, is pretty much always in a bad mood and won't talk to you?"

Wade frowned at Justin's words about work. He had let Heath go to America for several reasons, both personal and work related. He had forgotten all about the two being best friends and hadn't thought about how his own moodiness was affecting those around him. Slowly, he spoke up, "No...but I know what it's like to miss someone. Sorry I've been so...distant. There's just been a few things that I'm...I'm dealing with..."

Justin nodded, feeling sort of bad for his choice of words. He was the kind of person who hated hurting people, whether it was pyshically or verbally.

He knew one of Wade's biggest problems was that Stephen was no longer around. Justin actually knew a little of what the Irishman had been up to, having hired someone to update him on the man every now and then, mostly so he could find out if Stephen hadn't ended up dead. He'd already guessed how Wade would react if that ever happened. Justin had chosen not to tell Wade what he knew about Stephen, as he was sure Wade wouldn't like what he heard.

"It...it's ok, I guess," Justin said quietly, though he figured it was probably obvious he was only saying it to spare Wade's feelings. "But...what exactly is it you've been dealing with?" He asked, genuinely concerned for his friend.

Wade sat in silence for a moment. That question, about what was going on with him, had sent something through him. He knew how sensitive his old friend was and he knew that if half of the things that had happpened to himself reached his ears, Justin would be a mess. Softly, he spoke up, "Its....its probably best you don't know..."

"Oh..." Justin said, frowning. He knew Wade had his reasons for not saying, but Justin still couldn't help but feel a little down about the fact that Wade wouldn't tell him.
Shrugging, he slowly picked up his things and walked out of the room, something he'd done a lot lately. He'd unknowingly adapted a habit of leaving the room whenever he felt uncomfortable.

Wade sighed as he watched Justin leave, putting his head in his hands. He was use to being alone but he didn't like it. He had hoped Justin was close enough to him to help him get over this anger and hatred in his heart. He hated the man he had become, the hatred he had in his own heart.

After putting his stuff away in his room, Justin leaned his head against the wall, unsure of what to do. He looked up when he saw one of the pictures he had on his bedside table from the corner of his eye. He smiled sadly when he saw it was a picture Wade and himself, along with Stephen and Heath, back before any of this happened.
Sighing, he left his room and went to find Wade.

Wade had went up to his office to try and do some work before the day got started. He would stay in here as long as he could, not letting anyone bother him or let him stop himself from doing his job.

When Justin didn't see Wade in the lounge room once he got back downstairs, he knew where the older man would be. He turned around and headed back upstairs, hesitating for a few minutes before finally knocking on the door to Wade's office. He didn't expect an answer, but he figured he may as well try.

Wade took a deep breath, running his hand through his hair, "What do you want Justin?" he didn't need to see who it was. Somehow he knew without asking.

"I...just wanted to talk..." Justin said. He got lonely quite easily he realised, without Heath and he wanted his friend back. "Can we...please?" He asked, the last word accidentally slipping out in a way that made it obvious he was upset.

Wade sighed to himself and got up, opening the door and smiling a soft way at Justin. He should have realized how upset and bored his friend had been here lately. "What...whats up?"

"What's up...?" Justin asked, smirking after a few seconds. "The roof obviously. Geez Wade...you should know that by now." He joked, trying to act like nothing had changed between them.

Wade laughed a bit, looking at Justin, "You really think I would learn by now. I meant with yourself. What has been going on?"

"You'd think that...but apparently not." Justin said, shrugging. "Hmm...what's been going on with me? ...not much. Suddenly even the roof's sounding more interesting..." He sighed.

Wade chuckled a bit, "Well that sounds about right. But you always seem to have something interesting going on."

"Oh yeah, I totally forgot that at night I'm a superhero, I run a secret lab under the house....and I assassinated an important leader..." Justin joked. "That better?" He asked, grinning.
